Is that extra 1.5 gigs really worth it though?

this card would be more suited for extreme builds, like 3x 2560x1600 running 3D Vision (using 2 cards obviously)

The gains on even a single 2560 x 1600 monitor with "everything" cranked would be better than 1.5GB....

I dunno bout that rj.. I run 2560X1440 and TBH I rarely see vram useage over 1GB with 570 SLi. Looking at the review that Dan posted there is NO difference between 580 3GB and reference 1.5GB at 2560X1600 in the games they tested.

There is no 25X16 3dVision at present and as noted, no need of 3GB at 1080P.

This is the best source of VRAM usage with 3 monitor sets that I know of:

NVIDIA GTX460 in Surround: 1GB vs. 2GB - Featured Review - Widescreen Gaming Forum

I game at 57X10 or 60X10 and use a 1.5GB per GPU GTX590 to do so. As you can see in the article, that's good for 57X12 at 4XAA most of the time, and starts running into problems at the 60X12.

So basically the 57X10 or 60X10 I'm running is the top threshold for 1.5GB at some games.

The 3GB cards are primarily for 19X10 and up triple monitor sets, or 25X16 with high AA. I use 2GB GTX560 SLi for my 25X16 rig.
