My System Specs

No need to reinstall/repair. It'll "just work".

Now you don't need to get a Black Edition CPU unless you plan to do some major overclocking, however it's likely there won't be much savings anyways by going with a "normal" CPU. As long as it has L3 cache, you'll be fine. Don't bother with the "Athlon II" stuff and some of the lower model Phenom II X4's as they lack this.

It really depends on your budget though. A dual-core (Phenom II X2 555) is perfectly fine for gaming since very few games fully utilize 2+ cores anyways, and you could get a GTX460 or HD6790 all within $250. Obviously this is the best-bang-for-buck.

If you have the extra money, I would put it towards a HD6950/GTX560 before the Phenom II X4 955. And well if you want to totally blow your budget, then get the X4 955 as well.

I don't see the reason to buy a 6-core CPU though unless you honestly need that kind of CPU power. It won't do anything for games though.

Grabbing the 1st 2 links I found in the BST section:

You could have it done for $215 (maybe a tad more for shipping costs).

A x4 955BE $127 at bestdirect free shipping and the zotac gtx560 $220 -$20mir looks like shippings $2 at ncix would be an all around good match.

I would buy both from NCIX and PM the 955BE to the bestdirect price IMO.

As well I personally am long past the idea of a dual core still being good enough. There are plenty of games currently that will yield a substantial and tangible increase from a quad core over a dual. IMHO OP put the idea of a dual core out of your mind especially when the 955BE is only $127!
