Default 5850 at full load on desktop??!

Does anyone know why my 5850 is currently showing that it is running at full load on my desktop? Aside from my browser and TweetDeck, I have no other applications open and I have the latest drivers...this is concerning to say the least.

What browser are you using? I had that problem when i first installed FF4 but fixed it once i disabled all the hardware accelerated features ("Options - Advanced - General - Use hardware acceleration when available" is now unchecked). I think it was a problem with the clock switching from 2d to 3d mode and it getting stuck now and again. Also, if you have Overdrive Unlocked in CCC, try locking it again and seeing if that helps.

There's a problem in the newest drivers where it says there is 100% load/utilization when there isn't, its just a display bug.

x2, one of my cards gets stuck at this frequently in any browser. Not really sure what causes it, but I reboot before I game.

It's one of those perpetual ATI/AMD bugs that they never seem to get around fix. That and the dead green Flash screen.

RMAing my GPU (Asus Radeon 4870 DK TOP 512MB) fixed the green Flash screen (and consequently, a black screen for playing back MP4 issue) for me... Not that I'd suggest that for everyone but apparently hardware problems can cause it.

EDIT: (RMA as in the repaired version didn't have the problem)

Hey I'm getting the same problem with my 5850 (catalyst 11.3)...

Restarting the computer fixes it but it's still really annoying. It seems to randomly kick in (99% usage even on desktop with nothing open like OP) and stay that way unless I reboot.

- Launching games at a snail's pace
- It makes alt tabbing while in game slow as hell
- Even the windows User Account Control messages take a long time to pop up

I would really appreciate if someone could shed some light on why this is happening. I knewwww I would regret buying ATI

I don't think it's a hardware problem. It's mainly really crappy software on the part of AMD and/or Adobe. IT doesn't matter. I no longer use and AMD video card.

Have you tried uninstalling the drivers and running Driver Sweeper? Then installing the drivers once it's been wiped out?
