Avoid the 6870 if you can as its been plagued with poor driver support since its release and the extra cost you would put into a 6950 for the performance and better driver support would definitly be worth it.

Well Arinoth and YukonTrooper convinced me. I ordered the 6950 and will be returning the 6850. I don't plan to upgrade my video card for a while, so I think it's the best option for me. I'll maybe try to overclock my Q6600 a little bit too, to squeeze a little bit more performance from my CPU.

I'll try to mod it to a 6970 and keep you posted.

Thanks a lot for all your advice. Hardware Canucks is a really good community.

Yeah, if you're gonna get an upgrade, why not get the best architecture out?

Just a little follow-up. I received my 6950 (stock XFX) a while ago and couldn't be happier. I haven't tried to mod it to a 6970 yet, as I don't feel the need. I just want to thanks you all for the good and fast advices.

Glad to hear you got it and you're happy with your decision. Just hope the upgrade itch doesn't bite you in a few months
