Default PhysX Card

Would a 7600GT or 7800GT OC work for PhysX only ?

You'll need at least a 260 minimum for good PhysX

For games of the future.
For games of the now you can use a 9600 or 9800.
I do not think the drivers even support anything older than 8x00 series anyway.

My 8800GTX did a great job until i replaced it with a 280. Diddn't even notice a performance difference with Physx really tho....

Definitely not. 2 years ago I tried a 9500GT and it still wasn't even close to being good enough.

also, the 7000 series gpu's have the older shader design that does not allow cuda or physx, must be 8600gt or newer to support i believe

8800/9800 looks to be a minimum.

some games will drop fps with the above if you disable physx on your 5 series nv cards, higher end though. same with 4 series.

Yeah, not all versions of the 8800 are good at physX, but the 9800 and the GT 240 are the minimum cards I would ever suggest for PhysX. Don't buy anything below that! Also, the GT 260 is the sweet spot where you get a huge jump in physX performance.
