Default thinking about upgrading...

Hey guys, so I got crysis2 and im getting itchy....

I've got an xfx hd4890... my monitor is 1680x1050 and when I put the details to high, it plays perfectly
but when I put them at extreme, i'm just so close of having a playable experience (dropping to 20ish fps in intense action) so it's kinda frustrating, i'd really like to play the game at best settings...

first question, what does my video card equals in todays video cards ?

second, let's say I'd want to play the game on max settings on my 1680x1050 monitor (but i might upgrade to 1080p), which card on today's market would suit my needs ?

not really interested in multi monitor or 3d

by the way im on a core 2 duo e8500, 4gb ramz, an ssd and a 750watts psu

thanks

oh, and how much could I sell my 4890 for ?

The HD4890 is somewhat less powerful compared to a HD5850 so that makes your current options are HD5850, HD6850, HD6870 and GTX460. But it would be a lot better to get a GC that is a notch better than your current HD4890 like the HD6870 or GTX460.

You must overclock your C2D processor as well to avoid any bottlenecks from using these GCs.

thanks !
my cpu is already running at 4.16ghz...

and yes by upgrade I'd like to get something better than what I have to be able tu run better settings and eventually higher resolution at 60fps...

I just wanted to have an idea as to what my card would compare to...

thanks for the ideas !

I think he meant that the 28nm process GPUs are coming out pretty soon and the current GPUs are on the 40nm process. The die shrink might bring about performance gain that is still unknown or it could reduce temperatures and power consumption to a level which is still unknown but definitely lower temperatures and power consumption.

Most probably the temperatures and power consumption will not drop from the current ones if the manufacturers decides to bump up the clock speed so that a similar model GC at 40nm will have less performance than a similar model GC at 28nm.
