So long as you find the right driver combination that works for them , they are a good pairing.
Otherwise it can be a bit of a driver PITA.

yea i like the 6950 ( convinced my friend to buy one) but 1. there to big for the case and 2. its over kill for 1680x1050 and 3. i like the option of removing a card if i want. but for my main rig i wanna get one sooner or later but right now im fine with what i got cause frankly all i use my main one for is editing and some gaming, dont ask me why since its the most expensive rig i have

think I might be picking up a pair of these for a build too, however thx to a contact its only gona cost me 180$ total and at that price i highly doubt anything out there can beat it! Although ive seen them go as low as 120$ per card on the interwebs so a pair at 240$ seems like a nice alternative (IF YOU CAN INDEED FIND THEM THIS CHEAP) to a single gtx560/hd6950 which cost about the same but perform noticeably lower (although u wouldn't have to deal with the crossfire driver hell ).

honestly, i think you would be fine with just one 6850, i have one and im at 1920x1080...can't really see myself buying anything better unless this card broke lol, it's an awsome card lol (btw i have storm scout too, i think you'd be fine for cf space lol)
