Default Finally got an 8800GT

I finally stepped up and bought an 8800GT and went with the BFG OC version. Oo Baby! What an improvement! I can now pretty much max out everything with out breaking a sweat.

I'm averaging 47-53C idle and 68-73 load with the fan running at 100%

I only paid 250 bucks at Future Shop and had the honour of buying the last one in the store.

That's awesome! I plan on buying a GPU sometime soon; I can't wait to get away from the 7100GS.

Now slap an Accelero S1 with dual Scythe S-Flex F on that card for much, much better temps and next-to no noise!

(shameless plug: I have a 8800GTS 320Mb w/HR-03GT that I don't use...)

Nice, I as well just picked up an XFX 8800gt Aplha dog yesterday, nice card!!! what a difference from my 8600gt, no comparison! Hope you like your card as much as I do! Does your card have a loud fan, mine can get quite noisy under load, but the temps are in the high 50's while playing COD4 according to ntune. The temps are low so I can put up with the noise, just wondering how the BFG is?

Same here, I replaced an 8600GT too. I had an eVGA Superclocked version. I don't find the fan noise that bad really, I have my tower under a wooden desk so it absorbs a lot of the noise. The BFG is fine so far, I had a little flakiness but that was due to tuning more than anything. I also added more cooling and moved my harddrive away from my slots and into an open 5 1/4 bay mounted in a bay cooler so it seems to help a lot.

Your load temps don't seem accurate to me, are you measuring them right after you close out of COD 4? I came out of Gears of War and it was 67C for me and it took about 2 minutes to cool back down to about 52C. I don't have a problem with leaving the fan at 100%, with all the fans I have in my case I don't notice it.

They are a bit low, but its -30 outside right now and the room (in the Basement) is really cold, like down to 15 so the temps are probably low because of the ambient temp being so low... the positive side of living in Winnipeg! The temps were taken with ntune, pausing the game, then to desktop via windows key and then to ntune running in the back ground... so I think they are real time as I can see the slope down on the graph? The fan on the alpha dog is a bit bigger than on other 8800gt's I think? I think the cooler is the only difference with the"alpha dog" edition? Bigger slots and a bigger fan, plus the pc board is black, not green like the earlier ones from XFX... and higher clock speeds... and free edition of Company of heros... Researched it a bit before I bought...

I spend enough time outside in the cold, don't think it's going to happen for a few extra MHZ...although I think my computer is heating half the house... those 8800gt's put out a lot of heat!
