I have 4 MSI GTX 560 twin frozrs. Graet cards. Have all 4 of them running on a quad PCI-E board for folding@home. All 4 are running @950/1900 24/7 whithout any problems and the hottest card is 72c. (they do have 2 120mm fans on them...quad setups are tightly packed afairs)) Don't fall for the 460. It is cheaper and should be so...the 560 is a better card. As for the ATI card. I do not have one so offer no opinion. For reference..if you are into overclocking the card. I have 2 Gigabyte cards factory clocked @ 900/1800 running in an SLI setup. I can't get them stable @937/1875 with adding voltage. I think you will be happy with iether the Nvidia or ATI card.

or this PC CANADA - CP AX6870 1GB GDDR5, RADEON 256 BIT, DL-DVI-I/ SL-DVI-D HDMI/2XMINI DISPLAYPORT [AX6870 1GBD5-M2DH] - The Original and Highly Rated All-Canadian WebStore

that 5870 is on sale but is pushing the budget, but wow they're powerful.

Well if you are willing to go as high as that 5870 I would take this instead

NCIX.com - Buy XFX Radeon HD 6950 XXX 830MHZ 1GB 5.2GHZ GDDR5 PCI-E 2XDVI HDMI 2x Mini DisplayPort Video Card - XFX - HD695XZNDC - in Canada

That card will give you the best performance for your money in that range or if you really wanna stick with nvidia.

NCIX.com - Buy PNY GeForce GTX 560 Ti XLR8 Black Box 822MHZ 1GB GDDR5 Dual DVI Mini-HDMI DX11 PCI-E Video Card - PNY Technologies Inc - VCGGTX560TXPB - in Canada

They are the same price but that GTX 560 will give you slightly less performance.

I haven't heard anything bad about that PNY but I haven't really heard much at all about it so be slightly weary and do some research before you pick that one up.

Also pretty much any of the cards I have mentioned will kick your 8800's ass.

Also the 6870 is less powerful than the 5870 but it is quieter and uses less juice.

For you I would pick the 6870 or 560 ti (because you like nVidia). The 6870 because it strictly adheres to your budget and if you are willing to push you budget the 560 ti because it is a nice card at a nice price and both will give you decent framerates at 1080. (more so with the 560)

I have heard of some people with driver errors on the 6950 but most people are fine so it is a very nice choice for the price.

The Graphics Card I have my mind set on is the EVGA GTX 460 2WIN. Ncix has them listed at $450.98 before taxes and shipping.

I'd wait a month and they will probably come down in price. It performs well but it is cheaper just to put 2 gtx 460's in SLI (if your building a new rig anyways if you have to buy a whole new mobo thats a different story).

Thanks JJ, I'm leaning toward the 560, and biting the bullet, only cause I do like nvidia, and I keep my hardware for longer than most people. can't believe I paid that much for a GF4Ti4200...

One last question I promise! Would this gtx470 run too hot and loud and be blatantly weaker compared to the 560ti above? Remember I dont overclock and the rest of my system will likely bottleneck these GPUs
NCIX.com - Buy Zotac GeForce GTX 470 AMP! Fermi 656MHZ 1280MB 3402MHZ GDDR5 PCI-E Dual DVI-I Mini-HDMI Video Card - Zotac - ZT-40202-10P - in Canada
I'm also a bit concerned about that PNY cooler, do you guys think it's enough to keep temps and fan noise down? It's just that an aftermarket cooler adds a few more $$ to the pot.

I'm also a bit concerned i won't see all the gains without a cpu/mobo upgrade also, think that will matter much?
