My ATI 1900 cards run way too hot from stock, they keep the fan speeds lower to give the card a better db (sound level) score because they all sound like blow dryers when running at higher rpm. But.....
If you own one or two of these beasts and you dont like seeing the fans start to work at 70 C or you are just tired of setting up additional software to run your fan setup there is an option for you.
I flashed my Card Bios with modifed fan settings and left the clocks and voltages at stock values. I used Rabit v2.2.0
Stock fan values for X1900XTX Cards are :
0 C > 27%
70 C > 32%
80 C > 36%
88 C > 50%
91 C > 55%
94 C > 59%
97 C > 68%
100 C > 100%
Stock GPU shut down value is 115 C, that means at 115 C the gpu shuts down itself to cool down. Have another look at the stock fan ratios now.
Why would you let your card get that hot before cooling it?
Anyways I modified the Bios so I dont have to keep using ATI Tool or any other 3rd party software to keep the cards cooler.
Its Automatic, I dont have to worry about temperatures because it is at Bios level.
Throttles up fans while gaming or even watching a short rock video.
Modified Bios level Fan control:
0 C > 27%
35 C > 32%
40 C > 45%
50 C > 55%
55 C > 68%
60 C > 100%
65 C > 100%
70 C > 100%
Its effective, not quiet. And it works great. If you would like a copy of the bios or help flashing the card drop a PM.
