Default Budget video card advice needed please.

I am attempting to put a budget system together for my brother. I have some older components from previous builds but need some advice on a budget video card. The build will consist of an amd X2 3800+ (939) and 2g pc3200 ram. I had planned on buying the XFX 7900GS ($116.99) from DC but they are sold out and I was informed that the card is discontinued. I figured it was the best bang for the buck, beating out the newer 8600GT. This system will be pretty much used for playing World of Warcraft and possibly Call of Duty 4.

Should I just snag a 8600GT? Any advice on a video card in the $100 - $140 area would be greatly appreciated.

I have to second the 3850 in this case. Although not traditionally an ATI fan myself, that card easily out-performs anything under $200 right now. They can be found around the $170-200 range. There is one available from Direct Canada for ~$172 with $9.99 Air Shipping right now:

You can't go wrong with a HD3850.

The 8600 GT is good. Performs very well for under $100.

But I'd also point you in the direction of a Radeon HD 3850.

If the suggestions for the stretch from your budget to the price of the recommended 3850 is too much, you can get very good deals on 1950 series based cards as sswilson pointed out. I'd tend to go that route, I've also seen some good prices on used Nvidia cards. with their longer warranties the used Nvidia cards tend to be better deals to buy used.

Thanks for all the responses guys. It is greatly appreciated. I had thought of the 3850 but being this close to Xmas passing it just isn't in the budget. My thinking is that an 8600GT would do him fine but wanted some thoughts from you guys.

I will take a look and see if I can find an 8600GT with 512mb. I will also send SSWilson a pm and ask what he would sell his 1950pro for. Thank again for all the imput. Just trying to put a good comp together for my brother.
