Question Is it worth keeping the GTX280 SLI?

Wasn't sure if I should post this here or in the watercooling section. Anyways, I fell off the hardware bandwagon a few years ago when real life stepped in, but I've been itching to work on a new system. I've got a lot of reading to catch up on.

Right now I have my two 280s in SLI and was thinking of getting into watercooling. The blocks seem to be getting harder and harder to find, so I'm wondering if it's worth spending the cash on a wc setup with the 280s, or if I should sell them and put the money towards a better card.

If this thread's in the wrong place, sorry!

howdy and welcome. absolutely do not spend one cent more for your 280's

you can try to sell them if you want something newer.

Yeah definately no way you should put WC on those cards. Depending on your budget (which I'm guessing is pretty good considering you want to put in water cooling) you should be able to get much more performance especially once you sell those cards.

Unless what you really want to do is spend some quality time just working with your computer do what makes you happy if you aren't looking for more performance.

Thanks, do you know of any video card comparison sites that would enable me to choose the 2 cards in sli vs a single newer one? I've only seen them one on one, and being so far out of the loop I'm not exactly sure how the two measure up to the single cards of today.

Yup it equals about the GTX 480/570. Although the 280 SLI will not have DX11.

Go get newer cards and water cool them if it is in your budget. Although water cooling GPU's isn't worth it unless you are willing to spend a lot as full water blocks are expensive and don't work on the next card.

It all depends on what a person wants. If you're going for anything but the silence or heavy OC factor, WC is not worth it. Beyond that sure.

My next video card purchase will most likely be a single card, but I haven't finalized any sort of build yet. I'd rather deal with only one card to get rid of when it becomes obsolete.

Save the money and put it towards your next card purchase.
