Non-Reference 6950/6970?

If the 6990s are too expensive or just dont perform well enough, then it looks like ill be after two 6950s/6970sd in the near future. However, Im hoping some non-reference versions will be coming out soon, but have yet to find any news on them. What has everyone seen/heard about this? I haven't heard of a single partner coming out with one yet, so I guess its a waiting game for now...

MSI didn't have to "grind" any power connector lolz!

I like Twin frozr cards, but I'd rather grab cards that exhaust heat to the back...

I think the 'ol ATCS840 case would be good enough "cooling-wize" for two Frozrs don't you think?

Two reference HD 6950's unlocked? Then add some aftermarket cooling if non-reference cooling is what you're really after?

By the way, get those pictures? :thumb:

Same here. Heat out the back is the way I always like it TBH. Im hoping for a redesigned heatsink that allow for more OCing without boiling the GPUs.

@Yukon: The unlocked 6950s can reach stock 6970 speeds and maybe a little above. However, for a high OC I have to go with a 6970 for stability.

ASUSTeK Computer Inc. - Graphics Cards - ASUS EAH6970 DCII/2DI4S/2GD5

I'm thinking 2x of these will fit nicely on my Crosshair IV and 8-slot Lian-li X2000 , dont you? Rowrrrr

Availability?

Has anyone seen any of the Powercolor/Asus non-ref designs available yet? Im especially interested in the ASUS one, since almost every review i read says it can crack the 1Ghz mark easily.

Nice card, but the triple-slot cooler is a little on the BRUTAL side...

Damn, even the HD6950 DcII is triple slot...

I'm considering a crossfire HD6950 for sure myself, if it doesn't bottleneck my Q9550 @ 3.6GHz much...

The twinfrozr II would be cool...I know it's not in your faves CMET....

Newegg.ca - MSI R6950 Twin Frozr II OC Radeon HD 6950 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card with Eyefinity

They're OUT OF STOCK, they got 4 reviews in, one guy complains that there is not BIOS switch, a feature/option I don't care about...

Tiger direct.ca got them too, but as always their pricing in out-to-lunch....

CMetaphor February 14, 2011 03:39 PM

I already have the case for two of those 3-slot monsters if need be, and they match my black/red theme for my upcoming rebuild of my main gaming machine. The Frozr is nice too, but i really dont like/use MSI products all that often. Guess i'll be waiting a bit longer... dammit. Why is it everything i want to get (GPUs/lappy) isnt out yet? bah...
