nVidia Surround Resolution Oddity

I have two Acer X203H's and one V203H. All monitors natively support 1600x900. However, with Surround enabled, the maximum resolution is 3840x800, which is strange, even after bezel adjustment. This is well below the maximum and is a 16:9 resolution, so I didn't think I'd encounter any problems. Creating a custom resolution does not work, either.

I am currently using 260.99 drivers, and haven't changed them. The sync polarities of the screens are the same, too, if that matters.

Anyone have any insights? This literally is an eyesore lol.

Try the new beta drivers? 266.35 were released to beta a couple of weeks ago.

Sounds almost like one of your monitors is pushing the resolution below then 1600 x 900. If i were to break it down it sounds like 2 monitors are at 1600 x 900 and the last monitor for some reason is in 640 x 800. Have you checked to see both your monitors arent stuck in idle mode and you have sli ENABLED.

Sounds about right. 1600*2+640 = 3840.

I'll give them a go, I guess. However, I am running the 'SLI Patch,' so there may not be compatibility yet.

Yeah, I made sure each monitor was capable of running 1600x900 individually. Then, I ran all of them on the non-Surround mode and each one maintained its correct resolution. SLI is properly enabled.

I will double check idle mode. That never even occurred to me.

I'll also try the new drivers, and see what materializes.

What's wrong with going back a driver or too. I can't remember which one i used for my 470s in sli unfortunately though.

Try plugging the V203H in the card that only requires one connection, ie. the two X203H's on the first card, and the V203H in the second card. I remember reading something about sync issues when using different model revisions, so this might help.

So I tried the new drivers, but the SLI Patch wouldn't play with them at all.

After reading, it seems the best drivers are the older 258.96 suite. I've installed and run them, and so far, I haven't had as many issues as I did with 260.90. However, the highest resolution I can get is still something like 4080x800 after bezel adjustment. Forgoing adjustment only lets me run 3840x800 max.

4080 / 3 is 1360, so I guess one monitor is reporting itself as 1360x768. I have a feeling I know which one is the potential culprit, but have no fourth monitor to verify. No amount of tweaking seems to help it when it's not in 'Surround' either.

When I experienced issues, this is what I first figured was the problem. But it seems that it doesn't matter, at least in my case.

I've only run NVIDIA surround with identical monitors, so I don't have any insight on why it's not working at full resolution.

However, I'm also a big believer in the "time is money" and "time is the one thing you can't get more of" concepts.

X203H is $110 shipped on Ebay from a reputable merchant. A search on Ebay shows me these V203H monitors sell for $90-$120 shipped. Why not Ebay your V203H for $100, buy the X203H for a couple bucks more, and move on with gaming at full resolution?

Would seem the most practical solution to me. Takes time to try new drivers, re-do your bezel adjustment and create resolutions. There's no money to speak of involved in doing it the way you know it works.

Unfortunately, they don't ship to Canada. If I could even arrange it, that one-hundred ten dollar monitor will turn into a two-hundred dollar one. Still, I have been keeping an eagle-eye out for X203H's in Canada, but they're few and far between.

However, luckily, the V203H belongs to my brother, so I was only testing this stuff out before deciding to take the plunge. I wanted to make sure I'd have enough desk space, etc. I think I'll wait for a couple more driver updates and plug at it again.
