Default 3 monitors vs 1 big monitor

Hopefully a quick question...

I have a Giga Radon HD6870. I run eyefinity on 3 monitors when I game. 19" left; 22" middle; 19" right; total resolution is something like 3xxx X 1024.

If I game on 1 big 40" monitor instead, where I can go 1080 resolution, is there any difference with the above setup?

If so, what would they be? Thanks.

The difference would be less detail, as the resolution is dropping significantly. Also, when you have 3 monitors you can also do 3 things at once (im currently on 2 out of my 3 monitors at the same time, doing different things), with one big monitor you can't do that.

Yeah im very torn between my single 1920x1200 IPS panel or going 3 x 2209wa 1680x1050. Flight sims and Race sims 3 monitors is just so intense and immersive. But the rest of the time I would be stuck with a single small monitor.
I think 3 monitors is best for gaming.

Don't downgrade, upgrade! Add two more 1920x1200 monitors. That's what I did.

I'd always choose a single larger monitor. Although not at the expense of resolution.

You will not want 40" of monitor at 1080P because at close distance the visual quality wouldn't be good. A 30" monitor at 2560 x 1600 in my opinion is the best solution but it is also way overpriced. If you really feel like spending money upgrade your 2 monitors to the same as you center one. Or upgrade them all with slim bezels.

Reason why I haven't gone with triple monitors is the bezel and not all games work well on 3 monitors. 1 large monitor is better than 3 personally.

Haha Boggins, True but easier said than done. 1800$ in 3 monitors is too much for me to justify.

I'm just using 1 27" 1920x1200 for now, and I find that it is just big enough to have two things side by side. two webpages, webpage/spreadsheet/ webpage/movie etc.

Personally, I don't think that any current monitors have a thin enough bezel for me to want to go triple monitors. I am just going to get a good 30" like a dell U3011 and put it beside my 27. I'll used the 30 for gaming and both for multitasking.

A single monitor has some advantages as do multiple monitors.

I still say gaming in general (some driving/flight sim exceptions) is better on one larger monitor, but I still like having at least one other monitor on the side. I know I have a 22" as my main and a 19" 4:3 on the right side. That one shows me time, cpu usage, temps, gpu usage, network usage, etc. This way I can easily keep an eye on this information while I am gaming.

Now if I had the money I think the best way to go is a 30" 2560x1600 monitor in the center with two 20" 1600x1200 monitors on the side in portrait. This gives you a resolution of 4960x1600. That is what I would do if I had the money.

If you had to choose from 3 smaller 19-22" monitors or one really nice large 27"-30" I think I would go with the single large but only with a really nice monitor like the Dell Ultrasharp or something.

thx for the opinions everybody...very well put...

i decided to keep my 3 monitors...using the 40" LCD as a tv instead...

Hooked-up my other machine to the 32" tv...i think that works out best, LoL...
