Default HD 6870 vs upcoming HD 6950 1gb

Hello. I am contemplating upgrading from a gtx 260 core 216. I am looking at the XFX HD6870 BE. (I'm in US):

Newegg.com - XFX HD-687A-ZNBC Radeon HD 6870 Black Edition 1GB 256-bit DDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card with Eyefinity

But should I wait for the 1gb 6950? (I dont want to reflash, I want to keep XFX's lifetime warranty) I am thinking that pricing will be similar, how about performance? I game on 1920 x 1080. Any thoughts? Thank you.

Flashing won't affect your lifetime warranty with XFX.

Why a 1GB version of the HD6950? To save a few bucks? The 2GB frame buffer is the major advantage of those cards...without it, it's a step behind...You might as well grab the XFX HD5870 and pricematch it at NCIX...I think Amazon.ca sells it for $268...
