IMO the 'revision' is probably just the 1GB version of the cards. Swiftech's komodo block for the 6950/6970 initially designed for 2GB. My theory is the VRM is changing for the 1GB version because of the lower power requirements which also gave AMD an opportunity to switch to a VREG where they can get a better supply (from the rumours of the delays due to that).

The revision always been to use different VRMs located in another spot...
