Default GTX280 to XFX HD6870 upgrade?

Is it worth the hassle and $229 to move up to a 6870, how much better could it be over the gtx280?Thanks.

I'd say, this should about double what you had.

You should look at getting either a HD6950 on sale at $299@ NCIX or look around(Memory express was selling one for $269).... or a GTX570...
There is supposed to be a new card, the GTX 560 that should come out soon.

The HD6850s and HD6870s are almost already history, because of the price point of that HD6950 (with better crossfire scaling, and a LOT better tesselation performance)

Anyway, obviously, the online stock of this HD6950 didn't last long, BOXING day sale

The 6950 is too far out of budget. I was thinking of xfire the 6870 later down the road but can't find reviews that include min fps like HWC.

Nothing earth shattering, originally paid $300+ and didn't want to just sell it for $80 so tried the phsyx. I'll go change my profile because it went into wifes comp, 8800gts just won't die.

Do you prefer ATI? or maybe you could wait and see when GTX560 comes out and see will there be a price drop for HD6950? Or even a lower price on HD6870 would be nice

I'm sure you have at least a short list of games that you've missed over the past half decade that you could play to lengthen the life of your 280. Furthermore, there's only a few newer games that you couldn't play with decent framerates on medium to high settings.

There is nothing wrong with the 6870s. I happen to be running them crossfire and a friend of mine picked up the xfx one for 230 from the ncix boxing day. My only gripe is it seems AMD still hasnt fixed all the minor xfire issues i've been having with 6870s.
