My System Specs

Smile GTX 570, GTX 460 1GB SLI or AMD alternative(s)?

Well, this spring or so I plan to build a PC. The primary use of this computer will be gaming. I am wanting to play games at 1920x1080 with all settings maxed out and get close to the 60 FPS mark.

I'll be playing WoW, Guild Wars 2, Dragon Age 2, Oblivion and the new Elder Scrolls game, Battlefield 2, Bad Company 2, A bunch of other free games, Black Ops, TF2, The Left 4 dead games, Company of heroes and so on.

What I'm looking for is pure performance at maxed out settings, I am going to overclock the card(s) as high as they will go. I don't mind having 2 cards, but what I'm looking to spend on Graphics cards is $350-$400

Should I get The 460 1GB SLI, the 570, or an alternative to the Nvidia cards? thanks :P

GTX 570 $370
GTX 460 1GB SLI $360
HD 6850 CF $360
Either of these options will output maximum image quality @ 1080. Performance wise any of these two 2xGPUS will beat a 570 but there's bound to be some sort of issue, a game that is not properly multi-GPU supported or some weird anomalies. Add to that the extra noise and heat generating in the case.
I would wholeheartedly go with the 570 and save the headaches. Either way enjoy!

I'd say go for the 570 and ignore the 6970 as it only really beats the 570 at 2650x1600. Otherwise, go with whatever you can find the cheapest (i.e. either massive sale on the 6970, 570, or SLI 460). I wouldn't buy CF 6850 as it's not quite as dx 11 future-proof as the other options (by a hair).

I guess it depends on what level of AA you want to use. Up to 4x you will likely be better off with a GTX 570 for higher AA an HD 6970 might be a wiser choice. Also if the single card cost and perform roughly the same as the SLI/CF setup I would stick with the single card imho, unless you are going nVidia and want multi monitor or 3d (I forget if single monitor 3d requires SLI or not).
