GTX 580 Struggling? What the heck? [FIXED]

I found this very strange

I was playing Torchlight last night (which is known to be very non GPU intensive) during some very busy battles with quite a few characters on screen and magic being thrown around with lots of pretty colours etc.. the game lagged and stuttered during the busy parts?

The game ran smooth as silk on my old crappy 9600gt, why on earth would the 580 be struggling

The rest of my system specs are well capable of keeping up also... i dont understand

Maybe it was a one off glitch?

Cheers

its possible. mightve been throttling, but perhaps not.

does it write/read to from disk a lot?

Did you do a clean install of your drivers?

mkultra December 6, 2010 06:52 PM

maybe enable monitoring while playing to get data on gpu usage, clocks etc

RastaManMax December 6, 2010 07:18 PM

This happened to me when i installed my 8800GT in my old AM2 4200+ system on GRID. It ran perfectly fine on my old 7900GS XT OC'ed but once i upgraded my whole system all was well again. Maybe the rest of your system is bottlenecking it or something? What is the rest of your system?

rjbarker December 6, 2010 07:21 PM

Sounds like a "Driver glitch".....I wouldn't sweat it...may not even happen again....if it does try a clean re-install Drivers....if your running the most current Driver, try going back to the first Driver.

mjpd1983 December 6, 2010 07:25 PM

Yeah when i bought the 580 i did a complete OS reinstall on a brand new HD (i like everything to be fresh) everything else runs great on max settings - crysis, supcom1 all the other intensive games etc..funny that torchlight would cause a hickup as the gpu doesnt pass 44 degrees even after hours of gameplay

And dan are you asking if i do alot of reading and writing of general data to the disk?

Cheers

@RastaManMax

System specs are on the side of my post but if you cant view them they are as follows

i5 750
8GB RAM
GTX 580
Corsair HX 750 PSU
WD Black HDD's
Windows 7 Pro 64bit

Didnt think there would really be a noticible bottleneck anywhere maybe as rjbarker said it might be a driver glitch

_dangtx_ December 6, 2010 07:55 PM

yes. something else probably was going on, i dont know maybe indexing or something depending heavily on disk usage. not sure about that game, but it doesn't look like it will make your cpu sweat.

ould be on the server end ? not you them. cant handle your faster card.
