Default Going from dual 4870x2's to a single GTX 580?

Well I'm at the point right now that I need to upgrade. I run at 2560X1600 and SC2 dips below 25 fps with my 2 4870x2. I need advice. I'm sick of poor scaling with CF. I was hoping drivers would eventually fix this issue but no such luck. I also play BC2 GTA 4 and Black ops.

I'd say go for it. Should be a significant drop in power usage as well.

I think moving to a GTX 580 is a great idea. I think your overall game play experience will go way up! much better min frames etc.

... I'm sorry, but how does your framerate dip below 25 fps with FOUR 4870's? I run a single 4890 @ 1920 at max settings with ridiculous fps, even in intense battles. A single 4870x2 should destroy that, even at 50% CF scaling. drivers all up to date and such, as in an old version (10.5?) that runs well?

I agree. You can upgrade your GPU if you want a 580 will be excellent, but the SC2 review on hardwarecanucks has a hd 5750 with min framerates of 35fps.

How's the life up in Cold lake these days?

I'm sure you'd like the 580, but something is fishy with your results...but it's true that CF is a little tricky and doesn't always scales good...

There must be a way to increase performance a little bit...I never crossfired, but some pplz could surely help you troubleshooting the issue...

Hey ppl thx for the replies!.Cold lake.. is well cold lol. Not much else to say. We had a terrible summer, like most of the prairies really. October was really nice but we just went through a cold snap. They recorded -50 temps with the wind on the airfield here. Not pleasant. As for the 4870x2's.. Well I've tried nearly everything I can think of. I've tried all kinds of drivers, from the new new releases to the older 9.X drivers. I still get shaddy frame rates at 2560X1600. I can't run BC2 at 2560, I can't run SC2 at 2560 , I can't run GTA4 at 2560. I have my 920 @ around 3.7. I'm pretty sure it has to do with the terrible CF scaling. Also the double GPU scaling isn't up to par. No where near what you get out of the 5970. A guy on youtube with dual GTX 280's would beat my CF'ed 4870x2s hands down in most games. 40 + fps on me in GTA and BC2. I've done reformatting and all that good stuff too. No luck. I clean my drivers with driver cleaner pro everytime I do a new install as well. Ah well, Christmas bonus came in today so it looks like I'll be buying something new shortly!. My 4870x2's will go on sale @ around 180-200$ a piece pretty soon. I want to wait for the dual GPU cards but from previous experience I think I'll stick with a single gpu solution. Maybe I'll SLI the 580 or CF the 6970.. who knows.
