My System Specs

Default Upgrade GPU??

Hi guys,

I have a HD 5870 atm but with all the new cards coming out from ATI and Nvidia i'm wondering if i should sell now while i can still get a decent price for the 5870

Do you's think the gtx580 and new ATI offerings will be that much better in terms of real "noticeable" performance gains coming from the 5870?

I know benchmarks show the 580 is faster on paper but in terms of feeling it "in game" ?

Games i play alot of - Fallout 3, crysis wars/warhead, company of heroes, supreme commander1,

Games i will be playing in the near future at 1920x1080 in the near future - crysis2, dead space 2,

Also i'd like to be well prepared for the next couple of years in terms of new DirectX11 games

Hard to decide, i've never had any game lag yet

Any opinions are much appreciated

Cheers

yes, good idea. sell it now. at least sell it above 6870 price, worse case scenario you fall back o na used 6870 wich should be around 200 bucks. hope you sell your 5870 for 300.hope :)

or..........wait for another round of cards from amd and then pick a second 5870 for really cheap. id still go the cf 6870 though. and oc? wow.

I was in the same position as you.

I have 2 GTX 460 in SLI but plan to move to GTX 580 or AMD 6970.

With the new cards out from AMD 6850's and 6870's the value of my GTX 460 dropped significantly (nvidia price drops!) and I would imagine them dropping even lower as christmas approaches. So right now I am trying to get them sold before their value really diminishes.

From what I heard Nvidia dropped some money on Crysis 2 and its most likly to bring out some extreme DX11 features.

well if you put it for sale now, you should better off than a month from now.

remember, try to keep your price above 6870 just in case

Yeah good thinking dangtx

Ive just put it up for sale on a local online advertisement board (saves having to ship things) for $300

I would have posted it here on HWC for sale but i havent got it here at work to take pictures of

I might chuck it up on here when i get home tonight, it sucks that i paid over $500 for it not even 7 months ago, thats the way technology goes i guess

I've been wondering about going from the 5870 to the 580 myself, I've got to admit however my 5870 plays everything perfectly so I'm probably going to hold off, at least until ATI's next release and then reevaluate.

Also been wondering about adding a secon 5870 as the prices come down, never tried crossfire.
