in all seriousness, in 2-3 years stuff will come out at half price at possibly as good or much better than your 500 today's gpu :)

lifetime is good if you keep your cards forever.

also, you sure the 450's dont have lifetime? i mean those should be the ones cheaper to replace.

Dan has a very good point....I never seem to hang onto my GPU's for more than a year.....in some cases as little as 6 months !!

I wasn't aware that MSI was launching with non-reference GTX 580s... Hmm well there goes my theory haha

But yeah, EVGA I don't know what is up with them. I have a Pair comming and they are 2 year only. Ahh well with the way GPU tech happens these days, thats all the warranty I'll need.

ST
Yeah, I don't really care much about the warranty itself. It's more the absence of the Step-up program that irks me. This never seems to get mentioned, so I have to wonder if this is a more recent step they took to protect themselves from having to give credit for an item they knew would be severely dropping in price within a month.

Ah well, given the prices on their website, the waterblock apparently costs $200, so I suspect that if I wait a few weeks, dump the GTX460 for cheap, and buy all new, I'll still come out ahead (and with an air heatsink to fall back on). And the Dangerden waterblocks just announced are looking mighty sexy.

Yep...to hell with it...ordered 2 x 580's....will sell 1 480 and keep the other for another build. Quieter, lower temps, lower power consumption, yet slightly better performance sold me...

So far I'm starting to put the parts together for my 2nd build, have:
CPU - 920 C1
RAM - 6GB Dominator GT 2000 Mhz
PSU - Corsair HX 1 kw
GPU - GTX 480 (maybe 2)
SSD - 1 x 80GB Intel G2

Just need a Mobo, Case, HD and Optical Drive..

*sigh* guys we live in Canada ... 13% tax on $500 is quite a lot and add shipping to it and you are getting yourself close towards the $600 mark which in this case is $578 with the lowest shipping price and tax.

Seriously though, pre-tax prices are utterly useless and I don't know why people from both sides decide to wave around prices without ever taking other variables into account.

Taxes and shipping are a known when comparing prices. Why the heck would we calculate every price after shipping and tax when talking about products? Seems a bit silly to me.
