Default Question On a PhysX Card

I was just wondering.

ATM I have a HD5970 and it performs terrible in most games when things like shadow quality (GTA4 and Red Faction Guerilla), blur effects and AA (Dead rising 2), APEX PhysX details in Mafia 2 (obviously this), are turned on.

If I put in a Nvidia card like say an 8600gt or a 8800gt or something of the sort, would I be able to turn up AA and blur effects on max in games like Dead Rising 2, or turn on shadow quality in games like GTA4 and Red Faction Guerrilla, and not lag. After all I didnt pay this much for a card to be getting below 30 FPS in GTA 4 and Red Faction Guerilla, and Dead Rising 2

So yeah, just wondering if a dedicated PhysX card like an 8600gt or an 8800gt wold solve my problems.

Thanks in advance!

You'll have to find hacked drivers, as PhysX is disabled automatically as soon as an ATI card is detected. I haven't done it myself, but others here have.

Aww what a disappointment... I guess I will just have to deal with no shadows and Anti Aliasing.

You would only enjoy more performance in games that support physx. The only game you listed that would benefit from a dedicated physx card was Mafia 2. All other games you listed would see 0% improvement.

THIS. Not sure how you expect Physx to improve your AA and other graphical settings like that. Only thing you will benefit from from a Physx card is in Physx.

Is it even possible for a HD5970 to perform so poorly like that? 0_o

If you still want to do Physx anyway just for funsies then look here:
Hybrid PhysX mod v1.03 / v1.04ff

Physx is cool, but not mandatory.

I thought that because I have heard that ATI generally suck at stuff like shadow rendering and Anti Aliasing, and that Nvidia cards are better at that kind of stuff.
So I thought that if I had a Nvidia PhysX card in my system, it might improve it.

ATI is great at AA etc... I believe in current gen Nvidia has the edge in tessellation other than that it's a pretty level playing field depending on the game. I suspect if your having performance issues with a HD5970 there's something else going on i.e. driver issue, profiles etc..
