Has anyone tried OC-ing the 6850 and 6870? I heard the oc limit reached out of the box

yes, but not on a retail board. with vcore the 6870's seem to go 1ghz+ and the 6850's close behind. think of the 6870 core a cherry picked 6850+unlocked :)

Most sites are reporting that the rumored GTX 580 will not be sold or available to the public until 2011.
Now before you get all excited remember what JHH promised that Fermi would be ? It ended up being anything but what Nvidia stated , and contrary it was BIG, HOT, and Not a killer GPU.
So take things with a grain of salt and better wait before saying too much.


Nvidia working on GF100 successor

According to some fresh rumours, Nvidia is working on a new GPU that should counter the HD 6900 series. According to the info, the GTX 580 will show up in December and should be based on the 40nm GF110 GPU, an improved version of the well known and not very succesful GF100 GPU.

Oh I know, and I could be wrong, but I just have a feeling that NV was holding back a bit. You know very well that they could have released a 512 core Fermi, limited run or whatever, but they didn't have to because the GTX 480 easily beat the 5870. Now, AMD is moving forward with some revisions, and NV is doing the same. I think it's smart for NV to wait until the 6970 is released, that way they can gauge their new product to beat it.

Again, I could be wrong, but I'm hazarding a guess here. Actually, it'd be great if I'm wrong because a price war may result and both companies will work hard to outmatch each other

im still surprised they didnt slash/murder/kill prices wayy before. no way in heck they did not know what was coming. or perhaps the pricing they did not expect.

and amd wasnt that bad. if they went ahead with 169.99 and 199.99 for 6850 and 6870 respectively? well that wouldve been worse. they would still make cash, and loads of it while tightening the rope on nv's neck

Even if the 580 were the come out, it wouldn't make much difference, considering that it would be relatively expensive. In terms of Nvidia "biding" their time, I don't think anyone believes that. it's hard to propose the idea that Nvidia wanted to lower the price of the 470 (which is an enthusiast card), to compete with the mid-range 6870. The 470 was $350-$370 at one time.

Also, take into account that it costs AMD less to manufacture their cards.

also the fact that you see some super oc/uber gtx460 from some companies coming out these days, they didnt time it properly or amd rushed in a sense instead of making the christmas killing.

6870 is like 150 LESS than a 5870, has better power consumption, and at worse is as good as the 5870?

how in the world is that possible, and what will the 6970 bring?!
