Eyefinity adapter on ebay - will it work + other questions

I'm thinking of getting an eyefinity capable card. My monitors only have vga connectors...so can i connect 2 via DVI adaptors and one via this:
http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...m=130434343614

they claim it works, but i thought the adaptor has to be active and powered. What's the cheapest to go from VGA to DisplayPort? (It would great if the $14 adaptor above actually does the job)
----
I have an AMD 635, and want to play games in 3x 1920x1080 resolution. For a game like Dirt 2 or Crysis (medium quality), can I get smooth framerates from a 5750? how about a 5670?

any help appreciated.
mike
ps - adapter or adaptor? adapter = person / adaptor = thing?

The cheapo DP to DVI adapters are now available supporting up to 1900x1200, you can probably get one locally if you are where I think you are. Some of the DP to VGA ones work, some don't (there was a list on some forum I can't think of right now)

oh right this one (you'll have to dig a bit)

Yup, any of the passive ones seem to be hit and miss too. I bought one for $20 while waiting for my active DVI and it worked, but the screen would go black for a few seconds somewhat frequently.

Passive VGA works for sure, but I wouldn't go with it. I suppose it could be a temporary solution until cheap active ones are out.

I was referring to the cheaper active DP to DVI adapters that AMD's partners are producing

I bought this:
http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...=STRK:MEWNX:IT

$10 inc shipping.

Now I have to find a 5xxx card on the cheap that will run Crysis at 5760x1080 (medium settings). Any advice?

Might as well look at a 6870 now, you'll be able to get one of those cheaper than a 5850.
