Question about GT 240 class video cards (100$ range)
Im building a computer for my parents. I would like to know if a GT 240 would be powerful enough to output to a 24inch 1080p (in 1920x1080) computer screen. It is solely for web, Itunes and microsoft office. No gaming at all.

Do I need something more powerful?

pft, that would be overkill even.

You don't need any kind of graphical power for simple display output like that. Even integrated video would be more than enough.

The motherboard i will use is my used P5Q Pro. Hence, it has no onboard video.

Any suggestion for the videocard then?

GT 220 would be fine.

Even a G210 does the job.

NCIX.com - Buy XFX Radeon HD 4350 600MHZ 256MB DDR2 PCI-E Video Card - HD435XUAH2 In Canada. This guy is $25 after rebate and it would do the job handily.

Cheapest one you can find. I'd say ATI 3000 series or newer, or nVidia 8000 series or newer.

Something weaker such as a GT 220 or 210 would work just as well. On AMD's side, look at the lowest 4000 or 5000 series. My gf has a GT 240 and I play SC2 on her computer at 1920x1200. Sure playing it on Ultra is very border line, but still. She has an i3 530.
