UPDATE: Upgrading from 9600GT

So it's about time I start considering upgrading my 9600GT to something more powerful as it's the weakest component in my computer, besides the HDD. I'm deciding between a GTX 260 (Core 216 or not), GTS 450 and ATI 5770. Naturally, the ATI 5770 does not seem to be a logical choice as I am a folder. However I don't fold 24/7 so I don't mind giving up GPU folding anyways. The only gripe is that I probably won't have warranty as I plan to purchase used.

I'm more of a casual gamer and the only game I've played lately is SC2. I have a bunch of other games I got and I either never played them.

My budget would be around $140 and lower, of course the lower the better. I game at 1280X1024, but I might be able to move up to a higher resolution and bigger monitor come Christmas time.

Edit: I can't wait any longer. Will be pulling the trigger within a few days assuming there is still stock available at NCIX. Should I get the ASUS GTX 460 768MB DirectCU TOP for $115AR or MSI GTX 460 1024MB Cyclone for $160AR? I plan to upgrade my monitor down the road to a HD monitor, but that could be anywhere from a couple months to couple years.

If you get a GTX260 used there's a good chance it's been folding for awhile so who knows how long it would last. Plus it uses lot more power than lets say a GTS450 or 5770. Do you game more than you fold ? If yes than 5770. If you fold more than you game get a GTS450 (can be had new for $140ish).

geo,man, tough choice. the price indicates a 450, but thats not too much of an upgrade over a 260 which can be had quite cheap these days

I definitely fold more than I game...

And the GTS 450 that SKYMTL had has been sold. Back to waiting!

Anyone got a review comparison or first hand experience between the NVIDIA GTX 260 and GTS 450 and ATI 5770? The charts helped dangtx.

I found a EVGA GTX 260 Core 216 for $100 so... =)

no worries man. id take the 260 because i fold vs the 5770, but the 450 above all the other two. just relook the charts, thats it. but if you want more,well,youd have to sli another one :)

If you fold, grab a gts 450 for your price range. If you don't fold you will gain a bit of performance with a 5770, but won't be able to fold with it. At your resolution a 450 would be a great card and a substantial improvement over your current card.

Just saw the leak for ATI 6000 series GPUs. Maybe I'll hold this upgrade off. I've been holding it off for a long time now anyways.

Update. Yes I still haven't pulled the trigger. Not being able to run max is annoying me so I still have that itch, despite owning a PS3 now.

I can't seem to find much on Google so I thought I'd ask here and reuse the thread again. Prices for old GPUs have dropped while new ones have stayed relatively the same over the boxing day sales. What would you guys pull the trigger on if you had to buy one soon?

GTX 460 768MB

My friend got an MSI one for $125 + MIR and games so it was a steal. I got mine 1.5 months before my friend for $150 + MIR. I get a good amount of FPS for BC2 when OC'd on 1680X1050 res. At your res 12**X10**, the GTX 460 should be more than overkill.
