Default Upgrading from a 260gtx

I've been using my 260 with no problems so far, but I'm putting together a cheaper pc, and I'm going to be tossing my 260 into it and upgrading my main computer. I was originally torn between the 460 and 470 but the 460 seems more worth it to me. The primary use of the machine is for gaming and web design.

That being said, I'm not sure if there is an equivalent or better ATI model in the same price range. I've found the superclocked 460@1gb for about $240 so I was hoping to stay in that price range. I've only ever used nVidia cards before so those releases are really the only ones I pay much attention to.

Thanks,
Angelo

cumparie, welcome aboard.

now, before you decide on what to get, look at the following performance graph. then decide.

the 1gb 460 is faster than the 260, improvement left and right but you wont see a stellar difference(aka gtx480 style). the 460, and even the 450 in sli do a killing though.

Would you recommend just picking up one of the 9000 series for the other machine then? It's not going to be doing very much mostly browsing and office programs - maybe some gaming, but even then it won't be very intensive.

I have no problem sticking with the 260, I just figured if I needed a video card for the other machine, I may as well toss my 260 into it and upgrade to the 460.

why yes, it depends on what games, at what resolution, and the ingame settings used(ultra, high, medium, low)

I went from a 260 to a 460 at 1680x1050 and I noticed quite a change. I'm happy I did it when my 260 was still worth good money.

Soon i'll grab a second for SLI and i'll be even happier.

Basically the computer is going to my girlfriend who is still using a pre-core2 machine (she doesn't know the specs and I haven't even looked at it) running ddr1 with a 40gb hdd. She's running at 1024x768 right now. Basically ANYTHING will be an upgrade and I'm trying to keep the cost as low as possible. I ended up going with a 1gb 9500 because it was about 40$ and brand new.

The games she's in to are more of the point and click style adventure games, and even then, most of the time she won't even bother with that.
