XFX 8800GTS 512MB Alpha Dog Edition Comment Thread

The review is up and the card is definately a good one!! It is priced lower than we thought it might be and it is sure to be a massively popular product.

We have a review of the XFX Alpha Dog Edition of the G92-based 8800GTS 512MB.

Sweet card...have two of those babies OC'ed in SLI....and you'll go jammin'!!

I like that they're reasonably cool...and the temps on the HR-03 are amazing! OC heaven!

Awesome review!

inice review SKYMTL as usual :) that is a nice card but like you stated and zI am wondering why they stayed with the 256bit. if I where having to chose between the cards in the review I think that i would stay with the GT and just use an after market cooler but then again the xfx with an after market cooler seem to run allot cooler then the rest

SKYMTL December 11, 2007 08:34 AM

Well, it is actually quite simple why they stayed with a 256-bit wide bus: they didn't NEED to release anything higher because they are only competing against themselves at this point.

Great review on this card.
So is this card out even, I have looked at NCIX and not seen it, and at Memory Express in Calgary, OTV here in Saskatoon. Not that I need one, since i have the BFG 8800GT 512MB OC. hmm maybe I do.

I am liking the look of these new nVidia cards… they sure seem to be going in the right direction. I think I will wait until the new GTX comes out and then step up….

SKYMTL December 11, 2007 09:14 AM

There is a post on the NCIX forums which shows that there are quite a few cards in stock: NCIX FORUMS - NEW! - NVIDIA GeForce 8800GTS 512MB Vide...

thanks SKYMTL, I missed that. So here is another question, should I step up with the BFG 8800GTS 512MB or go XFX.

SKYMTL December 11, 2007 10:12 AM

I happen to like the XFX modder-friendly warranty and it comes with TWO games from NCIX. All in all, I think that is your best choice for now since EVGA still doesn't semm to have answered the RMA issues from Canada.

Great review SKY as always. I said it before, I just can't see the justification in the price per performance when compared to the GT. An extra $100 for a small improvement, even at higher resolutions. This card needed the higher memory bus to justify the price IMO. Glad I went with the GT.
