You might get around 40%-80% the frame rates of your old card. Even more with a 8800GT or 3870 depending on the game. But if you can already play games well with your old videocard, why bother upgrading?
go with the 8800GT 256mb. If it performs exacly like the 512mb version when your using no AA and at 1280 by1024 then you won't go wrong by the card.
