Default XFX RMA - Opinions wanted

Hey guys, I sent my GTX275 core edition to XFX for an RMA, and they just got back to me saying they don't have any stock on that particular card anymore.

They are offering me an HD5830 1gb card, or an HD5850 for $100.

Should I take the HD5830? Is it a worthy trade?

I don't plan on folding - just playing Starcraft2...

Yeah, the 5830 would definitely be an upgrade over your GTX 275.

Really?

The benchmarks I've looked at show the opposite... although the HD5830 supports DX11.

see if you can do some convincing on getting the 5850 for a lower price. say... 50$
do some investigating on how much you spent on your card when you bought it compared to how much the cards they are offering cost and use that in your argument as i think the 5850 is closer to what you deserve.

Id love to get to get a 5850 for 100$ haha but not as a trade in through a manufacturer.
xfx is a very respectable company. definitely easier to deal with then some.
just my 2cents :)

So long as you get the card covered by the same lifetime, I'd spend the extra 100 and get the 5850. My own personal thoughts at least.

ATI Radeon HD 5830 Benchmarked vs Geforce GTX 260 / GTX 275 - Madshrimps Forum Madness

the 5830 is a definite upgrade man. It will be fine for sc2. I was playing with a signle 5770 on 1920x1200 almost maxed out (no aa)

sc2 likes CPU more anyways :)

I was looking at our very own benchmarks of the XFX HD5830... I was kinda "meh"...

I guess for free it might give it a shot.

Thanks guys!

eh if you get the change to upgrade your current card to a 5850 for $100.. that's a pretty sweet deal still. if you can bump it down by talking to them that would be even better!

that being said, a 5830 wouldn't be a bad choice at all, I dunno if it would be an upgrade, maybe more like equal then anything.

According to Techpowerup, the 275 is only 6% better than the 5830.

Aside from a few titles which favor Nvidia, the 5830 is about even with that card.

I just got off the phone with XFX - I accepted the HD5830.

I'll be able to retire my 8400GS that is doing surprisingly well in Starcraft 2!

By the way, the XFX RMA experience was fast and very easy
