Default Upgrading 275 to 460's sli?

Howdy everyone

quick question, been wanting to upgrade my 275 for a while, the new 460's look nice, i know its not much of an upgrade gaming wise, but i do lots of Cuda work, and i think i might see a nice increase there with the 460.

Ive also seen that 2 gtx 460's in SLI can pump out really good performance for gaming as well(compered with 480)

what card would be good for SLI? am interrested in the MSI GTX 460 Hawk, but also like EVGA cards as well for there lifetime and past experience with my evga 275.

But, very few cards ive owned passed the 3-5 year mark anyways(retired usaly). witch is way am leaning towards the Hawk (for the OC and "quieter" cooling).

whats the general census about the 3year MSI vs lifetime on the EVGA(witch are also 20-30$ more)?

looking at the :

EVGA GeForce GTX 460 Fermi EE 675MHZ 1024MB 3.6GHZ

MSI GeForce GTX 460 Fermi Hawk OC 780MHZ 1GB GDDR5

this will be installed on a P7P55D-E Pro, I5 750 @3.8 ghz with the XFX 850 black psu

look for something reference. warranty wise, 2-3 years should do, or more from evga. dont spend too much. also the 768 are dropping in price, maybe the 1gb will also drop considerably?

I'd definitely go with the Hawk card out of those two. It's unlikely that you'll be keeping the card much past 3 years anyway, and the TwinFrozr II cooler is much better (and quieter) than the EVGA EE cooler.

I like the HAWK better based on the reviews I read. Get 1gb, totally worth it if you play 1680x1050 or more (I assume you do). Prices may drop soon as mentioned. Finally a 3 year warranty will probably be fine. How long have you had your 275's for example? ;)

PS: I have a single msi 460 but the cyclone and I LOVE it. My favorite card ever owned.

I love MSI Designs, I just hate their customer service.

That being Said take a look at what ASUS has along with GB for the 460's. They usually have good non-referance designs.
I just wish ASUS would remake its Matrix Series. I still have my GTX260 Matrix, and it was the best single GPU cooler ever put on a card.

Regards,
ST

I heard bad things about MSI customer service, but my experience with Asus wasn't fantastic.

Powercolor was the best so far. They replaced my card despite me being an idiot and re-assembling the HS on a GPU incorrectly :S

Thanks for the info, i ended up ordering the Hawk, nice Card, idle it sits at 30c , while doing some medium gaming it runs around 40c, everything is still stock, gone try to OC it later tonight.

so far i like it, run's smooth, (although with the new beta drivers, win 7 areo crapped out but thats driver wise), its a bit quieter then the 275 on the fan, but when there both at 100% they still pierce trough nicely ;)

well either i don't know how to OC the card or my bad luck with OC'ing video cards strikes me again, cant get the thing past the 875 mark without problems.

right now am at 875 with +20mv on the core, using afterburner, no matter how much voltage i give it, i cant seem to get past the 900mhz mark without furmark or kombustor crashing the drivers(258.96). and the ram wont seem to OC, tryed to bumb it up by 20 mhz and at 1850 the system locks up.

gona mess some more with it tomorrow.

I'm not sure why you're disappointed with those clocks. If you look out on the net, most cards are in the 800+ range, with 850 being a 'good' card. Anything over 860 is a great card. One of the cards I has does 888mhz on 'stock' volts. Thats a killer OC for 460's, so your 875mhz is nothing to sneeze at!
