ASUS Radeon HD 5850 1GB DirectCu TOP Review Comment Thread

The HD 5850 may be getting on a bit in terms of age but this hasn't stopped ATI's board partners from fine tuning the design. ASUS has now released their DirectCU TOP version that aims to simply be one of the best HD 5850 card available but in such a cluttered market, it will really have to be something special in order to stand out....

Quite the OC on there, pretty cool to see it top a stock 5870 after the OC

Impressive overclocker. Stupid name though :p

that huge OC doesn't bring that much extra performance (at least from the graph in the review)

Think of it as a %, not direct numbers. Approx 12% increase with the OC.

Wow nice overclock! If it hit 1 GHz I'd be keeping that GPU SKY! I just checked the price over at the Egg and it's a very nice price...

One has to wonder if it's worth buying though with the 6770 rumored to come out within a month. The price I see over at the Egg (U.S. ) is still $310.00 + $8.00 shipping. Aren't the GTX470's selling for around USD $250.00 now? I think even this DirectCU TOP edition needs to come down to the $250-260 price point to make it attractive at this point in time.

Huh? The cheapest GTX470 is still $315 on newegg (Canada). USD and CAN$ are almost 1:1 now anyway.

interesting unit, nice overclock. although buying into either of the cards on the market now might not be the best choice

I think people are putting FAR to much stock into rumors. If you hold off purchasing a HD 5850 / GTX 460 because you think something significantly better will come out at the same price in the next 3 months, you are in for a VERY rude surprise.
