Furmark or gaming? When I'm gaming or folding, my load temps only max out at around 46/47. It's just the Furmark/Kombuster numbers that get crazy.

yup, same dude!
I haven't installed my AC accellero extreme whatsoever. If it has crappy VRM cooling, I'm NOT interested. I'll keep it in case my reference cooler craps out.

Yeah the VRM pads suck monkey spunk! The AC Accelero itself is great with 1 GPU, but when I added the second the temps shot up 25C on the Accelero card. With both stock coolers, they both sit at the same temps.

Now if XFX would get back to me about my RMA all will be good. Minus the fact I am sending a reference 5870 for a non-reference replacement. They do not make, nor have any reference models left.

Feeling kinda jipped actually.

Honestly,

If you don't plan on OCing the cards, you shouldn't care much for reference vs no-reference.
The whole "reference rules" was caused by the capability to augment voltage thru software. If that feature is NOT a big deal to you, there is no hurt in getting a non-ref card. IMHO.
I needed a new GFX card for my kid and I picked a NON-reference XFX HD5770..good enough...$135 after MIR...
