Default Yellow squares when gaming

So I just started using steam with my newly purchased HD5970. While playing Battlefield Bad Company for the first time, after about an hour I start getting yellow squares on the screen then a few minutes later the game exits back to the steam menu. I have tried turning all my overclocks to stock and updated my driver and it still does it. Bad video card?

unless memory fails me yet again, dots/characters/weird stuff=core, squares/lines=ram

could be drivers, overheating. give it a go with the above recommendation and see. before that load up everest and check.

I'll try stressing it tomorrow. The card is liquid cooled with an EK block. Its it the same loop as my cpu and north/south bridges going thorough a 120.3 rad. So if its overheating maybe my pump (just a small Danger Den) is not strong enough?

what temps do you register? look for leaks, but that would've been kaboom already :)

Did you ever try running the card with its stock heatsink? You may have installed the waterblock improperly.

I bought the card from Lowfat with the block so I am sure he installed it correctly.

Yup pretty sure it's well installed. Try a clean driver install with a driver cleaner then run furemark. You can also scan for artifact with ATI tools.

or load up a live cd and run 3dgears, although its not very heavy so it might not show. that usually helps with the hardware vs software.
