nice. tdp and all. what people must remember,and i cannot stress this enough, is that a mobile gpu is not the same as a desktop unit. so the 480m wont bring gtx480 performance.

also, the optimus feature is quite nice, but i figure the switching might see bugs,might not :)

Love my 260M....plays JC2 and BFBC2 no problems at all at 1920 x 1080..just have to jack down the visuals.....anyone that gets their tizzy in a knot over Temps stay away...my 260M idles at 62C and full loads at 93C.....no adverse effects almost a year now....I'm sure the 470 / 480M will also be toasty ;)

yup, its a 'cut down' version. still, to be able to put that much hp in a laptop? kudos.

Yes. Check out the specs. Even the HD 5870M has only 1/2 of the desktop part's SPs.

2 GTX 480M's should beat a single GTX 480 I would guess.

The GTX 480M looks like it might be comparable to a GTX 460.

No point in buying a laptop if you SLI GTX 480M... Unless you have a sort of job where you need the portability of a laptop and don't care about the battery life.

Excellent article SKYMTL. Got a question though. With the new 400M GPUs, is it safe to assume that they all have Optimus enabled in their laptops? Or would it be like my MSI GX640 where it's still up to the manufacturer if they want to enable switchable graphics or not.

if you need that much power build a smaller box that can take the heat of a dual gtx 460 setup. less portable but hey

would love to see power draw numbers on an sli 480m i7 lappy running full bore :)
