Reference 5850.. possible to run with no fan/backplate?

Is it possible to run my computer without any sort of cooling on my 5850?
This is for 2D windows desktop only, no gaming.
I use it for 2 hours a day

Thanks

why do you own a 5850 then?

jcmaz September 2, 2010 09:21 AM

No it is not possible. You'll cook the card instantly.

If all you are using is the supplied fan it should be just fine, but it needs some form of cooling.

But he doesn't want to use the fan..

TheGrapist September 2, 2010 09:23 AM

he can water cool, but still the question is why do you even have a 5850 for that type of computer

He might as well sell the 5850 and get ~$250 back. And spend $<50 on a 4350 passive edition and call it a day.
