you would need to heavily edit bios so it stays at minimum clocks/voltage all the time, but even then at the desktop you'll need some sort of airflow with the stock heatsink.

now if you get a thermalright passive, thats another thing




edit guys take it easy, op asked. nothing wrong there. some people get overpriced parts for mundane tasks, not his fault if hes got the dough. my frend got himself a 5970 when they came out, he checks email...... sometimes on that puter....................doesnt even fold it!

Maybe that aftermarket cooler will work without the fans. Not sure, don't quote me.

Sell the 5850 and find yourself a nice low-end passively cooled card. I'm sure you could get away with spending under $40 or use on-board video, if you have the option.


Either way, don't ruin a 5850 by running it without the cooler..

Oh I was just asking if I could use it while I wait for my VF3000A to come in the mail.
I guess I'll just not use the computer until I get my new cooler.
