Default DirectX 10.1? What about 10.0?

All I know is that Microsoft is planning to introduce Windows Vista SP1 on early 2008 with DirectX 10.1. They have been saying that DX10 video cards will be compatible with 10.1, but I don't know to what extension.

Can anyone tell me what is really going to happen 10.0 video cards like my 8800GTS 320MB?

They are going to get the shaft and we will never hear of them again! Or not. I'm guessing DX10.1 just includes fixes...hoping for performance increases, but I haven't been looking into it that far. And as for your 8800, it will still be a good card, though it will be outdated in February apparently!

10.1 is just a few extra extensions... current dx10 cards will work fine with 10.1

Yeah- they're not changing the shader models as far as I know (although 10.1 will have mandatory 4XAA)- and MS says that after 10.1, they're not doing any more revisions until the advent of DX11- looks like they're in a hurry to get multi hybrid GPU action running full tilt among other things.

Isn't DX 10.1 using Shader Model 4.1, instead of 4.0. Or did Microsoft decide to take that out from the SP1?

Well, it will still be a while before game devs actually use DX 10.1... and I'm still happy with my Win XP.

Uh! It'll be awhile before games take advantage of DX10!

Shader model 4.1 is part of 10.1, as well as mandatory 32b precision.
