Thanks for the offer RJB, I may take you up on it when you get home. The problem seems pretty random though, I have not found a single cause, some times I can game for hours and others only for 20 min. It doesn't happen every day, and then some days it always seems to happen.

I cleaned out the drivers, uninstalled Precision etc. No MSI, no eLeet, so I guess I'll play and see what happens.

load an ubuntu or such live cd and run 3dgears, although not sure that will be enough to heat it up.

Have you used furmark to load it while monitoring with gpuz, precision, afterburner?
Might make it easier to diagnosis than random times it crashes in games.

I'll grab Furmark and run it and get back to the forum with some result.

15 Min of Furmark and stabilized at 92C with the fan on auto and running at 85%. No anomalies and didn't duplicate the error where the temps go above 100C while the fan does not run at a high speed, although it does not turn off completely.

I guess I'll play for a bit tonight and see what happens. I wonder if just cleaning everything up and then installing the drivers and then precision made a difference? I have not reinstalled eLeet, I wonder if that has a hand in the problem? Hmmm. Some days I wonder why all these things can play well together on one person's computer and not so well on another, and then I remember there is so much crap running in so many different configurations they can't think of them all!

Thanks for the input guys. If something odd happens I'll mention it here, but I am hopeful.

I feel like I am talking to myself, but here goes :)

I installed a Corsair H70 today, and to monitor the temps I downloaded the latest eLeet and installed it. While running a few tests I noticed my GPU temp climbing a bit and, on my G15 LCD Precision had my fan speed at 36%. When I opened up Precision the setting for the fan was still 61%, right where I set it. I moved the setting down and hit Apply and nothing seemed to happen. I set it to 80% and hit apply and the fan whirred up.

It seems right now, to me, that eLeet may have something to do with my fan doing odd things.

I'll keep playing around, but that's what I have seen so far.

There are reported problems with E-leet / Precision or GPU-Z (cannot remember which one)...uninstall it and see if the issues persist. For monitoring CPU Temps try Core Temp and for GPU simply set-up Precision to monitor Temps both on your Keyboard LCD and also on the upper corner of your screen while gaming (OSD On Screen Display)

I didn't feel abandoned, I just found it funny that the last 3 posts were all mine.

I uninstalled eLeet and will see what happens. I downloaded Real Temp to monitor the CPU and I have Precision displaying in the G15 LCD.

The H70 is a nice piece of kit. I haven't done a lot of testing, but I did run a limited 15 min Prime95 small fft (doing this from memory here) the temps peaked out at 63C on 3 cores and 60C on one core. I have not calibrated Real Temp but I seem to recall reading on their page that there can be variable TJunc settings on the cores.

The GTX 480 stayed under 40C during the minor CPU stress test, but I had no worries on that. I have a HAF 922, I installed the H70 to intake vice exhaust but I have a side fan blowing cool are into the case as well as the front fan sucking. The top fan is venting.

I had this happen to one of my 480's while gaming...one minute everything was perfectly fine. Computer froze up....looked at Precision. One 480 fan speed was at 0rpms. Rebooted ..fan was up and running again.

I uninstalled precision.
