Default my EVGA 8800GTS640 kicked the bucket...

Hi,

Yup the card died on me. It was in my backup rig. The card died during a game of L4D2...now it's artifacting from the BIOS screen and on...It was registered on the EVGA site, so I initiated an RMA. My uploaded invoiced should be accepted as proof of purchase and the RMA will go through.

Now...as of today, which card SHOULD I expect in return??? I know it could be different things going from:
-the same card, but fixed;
-another 8800GTS640 that they had laying around;
-a 8800GT or 9800GT single slotter;
-a 8800GTS 512...

What are they sending these days?

i think there was another thread and dude got the same exact card, but baked? seems they might try that first? or maybe its just a rumour and only individuals are baking the cards since long term = nono, from what i read.

LOL,

I sure HOPE they don't bake it and send it back. That would be an atrocious RMA.
I can't think of EVGA baking cards tho. Too far fetched.
I'll keep you folks updated for sure.

9800 GTX is possible, GTX 260 if they are short stocked.

But you shouldn't 'hope' for this since this is very unpredictable.

I take whatever I get!

A GTS250 would make me happy.
A GTX260 I 'm not hoping for...too much to ask

I sent my card in...can't wait to see what they'll send back.

Meanwhile I found this on the EVGA forum, for your info:

Quote:
If you're wondering about what product you will be replaced with in your RMA, then please read on.

EVGA keeps a private stock of all the products they have ever made for RMA replacement purposes. They will strive to replace you with the same model that you have sent them.

If for some reason they cannot find the exact model as the one you have sent them, then they will replace it with a product of equal or better performance.

  • EVGA handles all RMA's on a case-by-case basis.
  • They choose a replacement based on its performance, not its retail value.
  • As far as the exact model is concerned, there is no guarantee.
  • Just remember that no matter what happens, EVGA will NOT downgrade you.

Also, please be sure to mention to the EVGA representative, or on the RMA Submission form:

  • What kind of power supply you have (Power specs, model, available PCI-E 6-pin or 8-pin power connectors)
  • What other components are running on your motherboard (RAM, PCI devices)
  • If you are running in SLI (If so, which motherboard)
  • If your system/chassis is low-profile, or has limited space

Doing these things should shave a little more time off of the already quick processing at the RMA department. If you are having trouble with the RMA process, or if you believe that you didn't receive a sufficient replacement, then please call EVGA at:

1-888-881-EVGA (3842)

Thank you.

Some people get lucky and get a much better card. Most just either get their old card back fixed or one similar in performance.
