That's why I don't think you should do either. If you want the ability to use SLI, I think you should upgrade to a newer Intel platform that will allow you to do it with an Intel chipset.
Well according to the HWC benchmarks I just looked at, there is ALWAYS a 10+ FPS difference between the 460 1gb and the 470 at my resolution, and a 20+ FPS difference between the 460 1gb and the 480. So right now I am kinda leaning towards the 480. Trust me, I would enjoy a nice i5 upgrade, but whenever I think about upgrading sockets, I think "Damn... I have to re install Win 7 and lose all my program files, and yadda yadda yadda what a PITA!" So thats why I am leaned towards the GPU upgrade. The only concern I have with getting the 480, is the temperatures and whether my tx750 would be enough.

A 10FPS increase is all well and good, but what matters isn't how fast the game is running but whether it's running fast enough. Unless you're actually having difficulties playing games at the settings you want, you're better off saving your money for now and waiting. By the time a game comes out that is really too much for your system to handle adequately, chances are that prices on hardware will have dropped and you'll be able to upgrade for less, or that a better card has been released in the meantime and you can get an even better performance improvement from an upgrade.

True true. I probably won't step up till mid September anyways. Any word of a 485 or something?
Thing is, though I can run any game out adequately except for maybe metro 2033, but I feel the need to max every game (childish eh? ) And what is really encouraging me to go for something like a 480, is my new card not being able to run my favourite games, Mafia 2 and Bad Company 2 on all high, at an average of 45 fps at least.

You could try an SSD!
It's quite a nice upgrade. Sad story about your GTX460 and non SLI board. Seems like your were a little too quick to buy.

I'd keep the Q9550 (nice OC on it too), add a SSD Boot drive (latest gen, like a Vertex 2 50GB )and maybe step up to GTX470. Well, maybe selling your 460 and buying a 470 or 480 on sale could be cheaper than stepping up, you'd have to calculate...

Also, stop comparing the GTX260 (DX9) and the GTX460 (DX11) in BC2, it's not the same deal...the GTX460 pulls nicer graphics I'm sure...

I agree with Zero and Delavan. A nice SSD would greatly enhance your system and can be used on the next build.
Tough call to make though.

if you can find a 50 dollar 750i that sometimes pops up? give it a try.

if you can game right now no lag no issues? dont worry about.

I actually know someone who is willing to sell me his 64gb G skill SSD for 100 bucks. The only issue I have with SSD's is their extremely low capacity to hold all my games, HD movies, and stuff like that.

If I did step up to a 470, I could also add on the SSD since I would have enough money. But I doubt I would use it as my boot drive. Right now I am running 2 500gb drives in a RAID 0 array with a 640gb for storage, and I am already running out of space. So yeah my decision lies between the 470 and 480. What's keeping me from jumping on either one right away is that, 1. The difference between the 470 and my current card might not be too big since my current card overclocked like a beast and runs so cool. 2. The 480 is almost 200 bucks more than a 470 and I don't know if its worth the difference, and also I hear that it runs really hot.

I actually own a 780i, but it crapped out on me a while back which is why I got a Giga board. It would kill me to go back to an EVGA branded 775 mobo
