My System Specs

Default HD 5850 or HD 5870, Also What Brand?

Now that I have some funds, I was hoping to upgrade my graphics card. For the 5850/5870, I only have a few choices.
First of all, which one should I get? I heard that if you overclock the 5850, you can get the same performance as the 5870 for less money. MSI R5850-PM2D1G-OC (Overclock Edition) ATI Radeon HD 5850 Chipset (765Mhz) 1GB GDDR5 (4500Mhz) Dual Display Dual DVI/HDMI/Display Port PCI Express 2.1 Graphics Card | Canada Computers / NCIX.com - Buy Diamond Radeon HD 5850 725MHZ 1GB GDDR5 4.0GHZ 2XDVI HDMI Display Port DIRECTX11 PCI-E Video Card - 5850PE51G In Canada. or NCIX.com - Buy Diamond Radeon HD 5870 850MHZ 1GB GDDR5 4.8GHZ 2XDVI HDMI Display Port DIRECTX11 PCI-E Video Card - 5870PE51G In Canada. ?

Second of all, which 5850, if I choose it over the 5870, should I get? MSI or Diamond (both reference)? Which warranty service is better? I know the MSI offers three years based on the manufacture date (so I will now get at least two years, if the card was manufactured when the 5850 was first launched) and MSI makes the customer pay for the shipping. I also know that Diamond offers two year warranty on the date of sale and Diamond pays for both ways shipping.

Thanks a lot!

Edit: If I go for the 5870, should I maybe get the MSI or Asus (not ROG) non reference ones?

If your interested in the MSI maybe consider this one? Newegg.ca - MSI R5850 Twin Frozr II Radeon HD 5850 (Cypress Pro) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card w/ Eyefinity Its about the best deal for a 5850 and the cooling is much better than reference if you plan to overclock.

You'll probably hear most people recommend XFX for warranty. It will run about $400 for the 5870 Newegg.ca - XFX HD-587X-ZNFV Radeon HD 5870 (Cypress XT) 1GB 256-bit DDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card and $300 for the 5850 Newegg.ca - XFX HD-585X-ZAFC Radeon HD 5850 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card w/ Eyefinity.

Another card you may be interested in is the GTX 460 1GB. A hair behind the 5850 but considerably cheaper. Zotac you may not have heard of but I believe they have a lifetime warranty if you register and this card has displayport. Newegg.ca - ZOTAC ZT-40402-10P GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

NCIXs sale starts in few hours, you could check it out tonight they generally have some kind of deal on whatever is popular at the moment (5850/5870 or GTX 460)

If possible, go XFX, if not ANYTHING other than Diamond.

The MSI card seems nice. But, I do not really want non-reference cards (especially from XFX). And how is the 460 only slightly worse than 5850? 0_o

Edit: Oh crap, you are actually right.
