My System Specs

Default Looking for video card

Hello. I am looking for a DX11 budget card.

My current system:

Core i7 920
6gb ddr3
Rampage 2 Extreme
30GB SSD OCZ / 500GB WD
Corsair 1000W PSU

I am looking to spend about $200.

I was thinking maybe GTX460 ?? Or maybe an ATI alternative ?

Reason: Need a card for Starcraft 2

Also, please post a link to a good deal. I am in Toronto. I'll order today or I can drive to any store within the GTA.

If you want to keep cost down then either hd 5750 or 5770 (will be more than playable for Starcraft 2), but if you are willing to go a bit above your 200 go for gtx460 (either 768mb or 1gb will be fine, though I would say spend the extra for the 1gb).

+1 for the 460. Go for the 1gb as the previous member suggested. With a better handle on thermals and power consumption this one looks like a winner. Check the reviews, I'm impressed.

I have never tried gigabyte before. Is it good ?

I would rather prefer EVGA maybe. Lifetime support/warranty is a must imho.

Also, what's the performance difference between 768MB and 1GB versions @ 1680x1050 ?

I can't say if giga cards are good or bad I never bought any. If you plan on keeping a card for a while the the lifetime warranty is a must so an evga is the better card but beware evga sells cards with 2yr warranties too so just read the discription carefully.

Copy and pasted from ncix.

Lifetime Warranty is for all retail Graphics Card and Mainboard products ending in the part numbers AR, AX, BR, BX, DR, DX, FR, FX, SG, SL, or S2.

1 + 1 Year Warranty applies to TX, & TR, LX, and LR cards.

I can pick up the EVGA 768 for $220 canadian locally.

I want to go buy it today. I also want to pick up locally so I don't pay shipping.

Checking pricebot, I will have to pay up to $40 or more for the 1GB version.

Cheapest is bestdirect but even then I have to pay $25 more and it wont ship till after SC2...

Should I just go buy grab the 768 ?

If the performance boost isn't %15 over the 768, no need to spend the ~%15 extra on the 1gb..

Check out the hardwarecanucks starcraft II performance comparison for details, but basically there are some benefits to the 1gb at that resolution, but nothing that would be visible. I only suggest the 1gb for being more future proof.
