My System Specs

Default Where is my bottleneck now...

I'm not sure everything is up to date in my profile so...

E8500 @ 4.0ghz stable and running happy
EVGA 750i FTW
4gb of Redlines
GTX260 c216

1650X1080 is what I play at and I dont plan on upgrading the monitor soon.

I got the upgrade bug, expecially with the 460 being a solid performer for a good price and I'm not sure what do to.

My good side brain tells me to hold off since it's all running very nicely for what I play(BFBD2, WoW, Starcraft 2). No problem there.

My bad side tells me to ditch all that and get a i5 750 with a GTX 460...

What would be the best bang for the buck currently?

Just upgrade the 260 to a 460? Keep the 260 for Physx?

Keep the 260 and upgrade mobo/ram/cpu? Upgrade video card later on?

I've been reading reviews for a while and I dont see the 260 listed anywhere when comparing against the Fermis for DX10 to give me a better idea...

Thanks for any opinions!

KK, this is a review with a few comparisons with 200-series and GTX460 (depending on the game).

NVIDIA?s GeForce GTX 460: The $200 King - AnandTech :: Your Source for Hardware Analysis and News

IMHO, you have a nice rig already.
An OCed quad will help a little in Bad Company 2 and other multicore-enabled cPU intensive games.

By going i5 750 OCed to 3.8 - 4.0GHZ, you'll get better benchmark results and more fluidity in some games maybe...Bad company likes Quads...

The GTX460 is a nice card, but coming from a GTX260 C216, it's an improvement, and DX11 support, but it's not that great of an improvement I find...it's like going from your card to a GTX285...

With a Rig like yours already decent and "well-balanced, to have a nice "noticeable" performance boost "and worth the money spent", I'd think you'd have to get a new platform AND a more powerful GFX than GTX460 (GTX470-480 or HD5870).

you can always try to get one GTX460 (1gb version) and plan for SLI (to get on top of a GTX480) when you do the platform upgrade down the road (with like a i7860/875k). That would make sense.

Because IMHO, a i5 750 complete platform + a GTX460, although more performant than your actual rig would be too much money for not enough improvement right now... (

My two cents...

That's what I have been thinking too, it's alot of money for a 20-30% increase in FPS, maybe, not in every games also.

Other then DX11 gizmos, not much would be added to the table.

Thanks for taking the time to write it out, sounds like when I was thinking of keeping the rig as-is for another 6-month to a year before upgrading the whole thing instead is making sense $$$ wise since it's still running good.

Perhaps you could install a SSD for your OS for the time being. It would give you a decent overall performance boost and when you upgrade your system later your funds can go for a better gpu/montor combo or whatever you feel needs more of an upgrade.
With a good system already there isn't much you need to do right now if you're happy with it. If you're running 64 bit, I would max out your memory to 8 gb.

For now most of the game are still best on a dual core. I would keep your actual set up and wait. A GTX260 is still decent ( I use the same so )for you resolution it's perfect. You can start to look for an upgrade but don't hope for significan't difference. You will see increase in FPS because of the GPU but a game that run fine at 30 is the same at45-60 FPS. Ho and the PhysX thing is total crap IMO. Not worth the price of a card to have in like 15 game extra effect like fire ans sparkle wow so amazing.
Here is the list of game that can use advantage of it. I seriously don't know half of these game XD

PhysX Games List

That's what I ended up doing...

Put it up for sale, for an offer right away for 160 locally, dropped it off, picked up a 460 on the way home.

So next step will be the i750/SSD once I have play money burning a hole in my pocket again :)

not gonna see THAT huge of an increase.

The e8500 oc'd is more than enough for most games these days.

You'll be able to get another 460 later and SLI (depending of your next mobo). That would give you a great boost.

BTW, which card did yo end up getting? 768 mo? Brand, price?
