Default 3 way sli or Sli and physics?

I have a evga 680i motherboard and 2 watercooled 8800 gtx ko acs edition cards in sli. A friend of mine is considering selling me his 8800 gtx card. Was curious what the benefit would be in either :

using all 3 in tri sli (having to buy a 3 way bridge) and i think all slots would bump down to 8x 8x 8x

or.. adding the card and still leaving the SLI enabled and using it s physics card (not using the tri bridge)

was curious what would be best? I am assuming its either or, unless i am completely of base here.

I would start with the sli and use the other for Physx to start based on the response I got here and what I have read online . If you don't like the performance you can always add the tripple bridge later

I think you should Tri-SLI. Not many popular games support PhysX (Other than Batman: AS and Metro).

, I see, this is mainly to cure a twitch that I am having inregards to tinkering with the computer, so basically im filling a void with this. MW2 is basically the only game I play at the moment. But i appreciate your thoughts on the subject. I just hope I can fit the darn card inbetween the 2 water cooled ones!!!! I may have to strip off the outer case.

if I get the card, I will mostlikely try both ways if the install isn't too painful!!!

thanks

frosty

Couple weeks ago I won a copy of MW2 (I would never pay for it...but free is free...only took me 6hrs to complete the single player on veteran though so it was "worth every penny" I paid for it :)~ ) I run it in 1920x1280 with the eye candy maxed out on a single 275 msi twin frozr.....and have never had a slow down that was noticeable. I truly DOUBT your 88's in SLI wont be enough horsepower. IF you want to go for the third....go for it, but I doubt you will gain anything from doing so. YMMV

I ran fraps in preperation of the third card and used the bench mark feature during a MP game.... punched the f11 key a few times, basically in between deaths.... this is what i will compare it to , plus the 3dmark vantage score.

after all it is a hobby right!!!! :) Cant never seem to leave it alone!!!

You would be better off selling both of your cards and upgrading to something from the current generation, honestly.

Smile Video Cards

+1 for the new cards. I think a pair of 460s in sli will greatly outperform your setup and give you Dx11 capability. Otherwise I think sli with physics will be preferential. Let us know as now I'm curious about the results.
