Default Need a budget video card

Hey , so the starcraft 2 beta just came back but now my poor old 6600 GT is not giving me playable frame rates at the lowest settings :( (without dropping resolution)

My budget is under $100 Canadian Ship , my PC is a pre-built so the power supply is < 300 Watts , if the card was phys-x compatible so that when I build a pc in september it is not a wasted investment. I would upgrade my PSU if needed but , I would rather not.

I Run 2 monitors at 1680 x 1050

I was looking at

NCIX.com - Buy ASUS GeForce GT 220 625MHZ 1GB 800MHZ DDR2 PCI-E VGA DVI HDMI HDCP Video Card - ENGT220/DI/1GD2(LP) In Canada.

NCIX.com - Buy ASUS GeForce 210 589MHZ 512MB 800MHZ DDR2 PCI-E VGA DVI HDMI HDCP Video Card - EN210/DI/512MD2(LP) In Canada.

or

Buy the Galaxy GeForce GT 220 1GB DDR2 PCIe, DVI/HDMI/VGA at TigerDirect.ca

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Since they all have the same power requirements I'd definitively go for a GT240. However, with a generic 300W PSU, I am not sure how comfortable I'd feel.

XFX GT 240 512mb
MSI GT 240 1gb
I intentionally kept away from the DDR3 version because it is not quite as good.

Edit: Without PhysX, you've got an XFX 5570 for a pretty good price, in terms of performance it is comparable to the GT 240.

You would have to upgrade your PSU. The last time I ran a 300w psu in 2006 with a 1600xt my computer wouldn't start up again. Get at least 500w and a decent PSU.

You are wrong. 300W is plenty for a mid-range PC with a low-power video card like a GT 240.

GT 240 would be a good fit in your case. I ran a 8800GS which is almost the same thing with a 300W generic like yours for a year before I upgraded so it should definitely be fine

Try to go for a DDR5 version of the GT 240, there seems to be a fair bit of difference between the ddr3 and ddr5 versions.

whats the part number on the psu? good manufacturers usually dont lie. if it holds 200 watts on the 12v you can put quite a couple cards in there
