Default How do YOU install drivers?

So...I was wondering how everyone installs their drivers. I usually just install drivers over on top the old ones without removing the old drivers first. Lately, there's been lots of people who I've seen recommend uninstalling old drivers ->driver sweeper in safe mode -> install new drivers. Is there any truth to that being better?

I never had any issues with installing drivers ON TOP of the former version.
Nvidia or ATI. BUT, that being said, we're talking about updating drivers only.

I'd say, download the driver, not just open the file and let it install. That way, you always keep the former versions of the drivers on your hard drive. If something does wrong, you can either revert back to the former driver, or swipe out the driver install and re-install from the original driver file you kept.
If you come across an issue, at least you have quick options.

Swapping video cards is totally different. I'd say that in that case, wiping former drivers with driverSweeper or Drivercleaner pro is ALMOST MANDATORY. I'd say it's "good practice".

If I swap cards, I totally wipe. If I only upgrade drivers to the latest version, I cross my fingers and install on top.

With Windows 7 and Vista, all you have to do is install the new version on top of the old one. I've been doing that since Vista first came out and it works perfectly for me every time.

I'm glad the old Windows XP days of having to uninstall drivers, boot in safe mode, run driver cleaner, restarted PC and install fresh drivers are over.

Every since I started using Vista I just install them on over the current drivers which is easy, quick, and flawless I'd say, I haven't any any issues for the past few years that I've been doing it.

Installing new drivers over old ones is just asking for trouble imo. It takes maybe 5 min to do it properly so there's no excuses. Uninstall the old ones using control panel. Reboot into safe mode. Run Driver Cleaner. Reboot. Install new drivers and you're done.
