Default 5970 DisplayPort to HDMI - Carry sound?

Hey guys,

Picking up a Asus 5970 next week and i'm wondering...

If I use a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter, and plug it into my TV - Can I configure on my computer so the sound goes to my TV as well?

Just makes it a little bit easier when I want to watch movies/tv on my living room TV with 1 cable, rather then having to use an audio cable from my PC speakers to my living room as well.

Is there any reason why you can't use DVI-to-HDMI?

I know that the DisplayPort from an HD5970 can carry audio. But do you not need an active displayport to HDMI adapter? Which I don't even know if one exists.

Right from DisplayPort FAQ
FAQ | DisplayPort
Q: I'd like to know if I use a DP --> HDMI adaptor to connect my computer to my TV, will I hear the sound with my TV or my computer?

A: DisplayPort does handle full HDMI signaling including sound but keep in mind that implementation of full HDMI signaling is an option the PC manufacturer must choose to enable. It is recommended that you check with the PC manufacturer prior to making a purchase and verify that the PC supports DP++ capability with HDMI. DisplayPort adaptors simply passes through the DVI or HDMI signal.

I have no issue using a DVI-HDMI cable to connect pc>tv, assuming the dvi port on the 5970 is capable of carrying sound from my computer?

I DO have an active display port adapter (DP to DVI) if that helps any.

All ATI cards since the 4-series started, DVI can be used for HDMI which includes audio. Most of them even come w/ the DVI to HDMI adapter.

That active adapter will almost for sure kill all sound going in to it.
